There is going to be a lot of explain in this post but it's going to be fun! If you didn't know (which I'm sure the title wasn't a dead give away) today we are talking about men. But not just any old man, but the one riding an elephant named Bojangles.
With the elephant, there is so much to be said and it all started with my squad. One day when I and my friends were talking about guys one of them mentioned (on our random joking list of the must) that he should be it should ride on an elephant. Just imagine a man in Texas ridding up to your front door on an elephant saying "Hey girl, want to go for a ride?". Now that's an image, isn't it? Just thinking about it makes me laugh because I live in Texas and the only place I have seen an elephant is at the zoo. But if we can think a little deeper and get past a literal elephant it can mean so much more! To me, the elephant stands for many different things.
For one it stands for the guy willing to put himself out there and pursue you like God pursues his people. Now I know that's a super tall standard to live up to and maybe a little unrealistic. But come on guys we want to feel pretty and loved, and wanted. We want to see some dedication, some sweetness, some elephants, and as women of God we should show them some love too. My brother always told me that guys will go after what they want no matter what it is and you will be easily able to tell if you are something he wants. This thought has always stuck with me, but as I take a look at the men in today society it seems like they are kinda stepping back. Maybe because they are afraid to get hurt or rejected, or maybe they are trying to better themselves....... who knows. But as a woman, there is only so much I am willing to do in terms of putting myself out there with no reciprocation, and I want to speak to all ladies out there and say it's okay. It's okay to stop analyzing every single thing and let the relationship be whatever it will be.
Now along with elephants comes with the man riding the elephant and we decided to give the elephant man a name! Bojangles it was! My brother had something to say about the name too, but this time it wasn't words of wisdom. He told me that Bojangles was a Caucasian man who would paint his face black and act as an African American, and there is my friend that always brings up the restaurant. So now I know some of you have been thinking who would want a man like that or why would I be referring to a restaurant? I know I sure wouldn't! For me, this name represents the man with a heart on fire for God. A man that hears God's voice and makes a change, a man willing to lead(in the right direction). It's the confidence man that knows what he wants. This man is just pure awesome because he is riding an elephant! So after hearing those things but already being sold to the name since we have been using it for years now, we decided to stick with it. And truly it doesn't matter what the name used to mean or does mean because to us it means a man riding on an elephant.
Really what elephants and Bojangles boil down to is that you don't need to settle. I know that the constant friend of single-hood isn't always fun and that it often seems to be thrown in your face. But one thing is for sure is that I am going to keep having my standards of a Godly man, of a man who has a heart for God's people, a heart for children. I could go on and on but instead of a full-blown list, I will just use the two words that say it all. I want Bojangles riding on an elephant!
